The on-line peer-reviewed quarterly "Central European Political Studies Review" is a scholarly project of the International Institute for Political Studies of the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno. Its publisher is Masaryk University, Žerotínovo nám. 617/9, 601 77 Brno, IČ 00216224. The Review was founded in 1999 and appears four times a year (since 2002, three times including a Summer double issue). Between 1999-2002, a printed version containing the most interesting pieces of the year was published as well.

As for its scholarly profile, the Central European Political Studies Review generally focuses on modern politics in Europe. Its Central European dimension thus expresses the specific experience of the founders and contributors with the phenomenon of politics and its scholarly reflection. The collocation "Central European" therefore does not refer primarily to the content of the articles, but indicates the authors' perspective. Methodologically, as a political-scientific periodical with interdisciplinary reach, the Central European Political Studies Review is nested mainly within the general framework of the empirical-analytical paradigm, with a special emphasis on linking relevant political-scientific or social-scientific theory with analysis of empirical data. Papers dealing especially with issues from Comparative Politics, European Studies, and Foreign and Security policy are welcome, although the Editorial Board will gladly consider contributions from other areas of both political science and other social-scientific disciplines. In this sense, the mission of our journal is to provide public yet scholarly arena for original research in the given discipline(s), research that will be firmly embedded in contemporary research trends on both European and international levels, yet will offer novel context and perspective. The circle of authors, reviewers and readers includes renowned Czech and foreign scholars whose professional bibliography is available in the section AUTHORS. Starting with Issue 1 of Vol. VIII (Winter 2006), this information is also included in the published articles.
The structure of the journal includes original studies, scholarly essays, survey articles and book reviews; we also welcome critical discussions of already published material.
We accept papers in English, Czech and Slovak language. All submitted papers pass through a standard double-blind review procedure, which has been in operation since the very first issue of the journal (further information on the formal and content requirements for submissions, see the section Editorial plan.

The Journal is indexed and abstracted in the following databases: EBSCO Political Science Complete, EBSCO TOC Premier, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), PROQUEST Political Science Journals, CEEOL (Central and Eastern European Online Library), a Index Copernicus International.

Starting with Issue 1-2013 (Vol. 15), we are included in the CrossRef/DOI citation and indexing system.
